What is Marxism in its real results? It’s more than most think it is. I base that characterization on the oft-repeated points forwarded by those with a little knowledge – that most dangerous condition of modern America where a person “with a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” These “little knowledge” types have large mouths that are quite well versed in the repetition of phrases that sound just so darned good. I can assure readers that 90% of those forwarding Marxist’s principles have no clue what they are saying or from where their thoughts were sourced.
Karl Marx emerged into modern lexicon in the middle of the 19th century with the books “Das Kapital” and “The Communist Manifesto.” Both of these works were written by Karl Marx with co-author credit to Friedrich Engels for The Communist Manifesto, and editor credit to Engels for Das Kapital. These two men have been responsible for more 20th century death and human misery than almost any other series of events.
Consider Hitler was a Marx adhering socialist, as were/are all Communist nations and most revolutions in the post World War II world and it’s easy to see the death toll from the ideas of these two men is rather high. These guys are directly responsible for nearly as much worldwide death as the Black Death of the 15th century in Europe. 60 million in WWII, 70 million Chinese peasants in Mao’s revolution and cultural revolution, Stalin killed upwards of 50 million in purges and forced collectivization, Vietnam, Pol Pot in Cambodia, the deaths in the ousting of the Tzar in the 1917 revolution, Communist revolutions in Central & South America, Korea, and many more smaller Marxist revolutions including the never ending fighting in Africa. Add up the piles of dead and then thank Marx and Engels. So, what have they wrought the world?
Marxism is a two sided theory, one economic, one political, and the political is merely an offshoot of the economic, in how to bring it about, govern it and perpetuate it. Marxism is the epitome of Mao’s words “political power grows from the barrel of a gun.” (Wikipedia) Not in the US it doesn’t. Marxism is a sadly misplaced ideology and economic theory for this nation. For Marxism to have any real appeal a nation must have a huge peasantry and a tiny ruling elite. The US, despite our complete lack of perfection, is not a candidate for such Marxist foolishness, but for some reason we cannot convince the Marxists of that fact. Hardheaded SOB’s!
Marxism had it’s genuine power in 19th century Europe, where peasants flocked to the cities seeking an opportunity for work in the crowded industrial cities. By the 19th century monarchy was failing fast and industrialization helped to collapse it. As economic power and freedom swept across the continent, monarchy could not hold its grasp over citizens as it had and social and economic order slipped. Marxism was an answer. It was an appeal to the simple man to seize power over their own lives and filled the vacuum left by more orderly times of the past.
Across Europe and yes the US too, but on a much smaller and different scale, there were industrial barons of money, influence and power. Most citizens were mere cogs in the works – nameless, faceless and largely worthless in the larger scheme of things. Marxism was an out for the common man. Inner cities were rife with squalor, disease and crime. Workers were tied to 14 hour days, 6 days per week, with no power over their own lives other than to leave and seek employment elsewhere. But at every turn it was go back to the farm or village or live with the only alternative – life in the cities as a faceless cog in the wheels of industry.
When peoples are held down by others it is only natural they will revolt at some point, and here is where Karl Marx fits in. He gave them a simple concept – worker’s unite – but it turned from a hopeful mantra to an ugly reality.
The hope was that men could seize the reins of power and self determination, but Europeans were not capable of doing so. They had 1000 years of ingrained acceptance of an almost divine like power over them of monarchies. When revolution came to Europe it was violent and ugly. The American revolution was entirely political. The French Revolution that followed on the heels of American independence was a tiny bit political, but far more it was social and economic. The American Revolution was not social or economic, but one based in deeply held beliefs over Man, God and our rights in that realm.
American’s revolted against an idea. Europeans revolted over a lifestyle. There is a huge difference and failure to acknowledge that is a huge mistake made by the sycophancy who is good at repeating clever mantras but exceedingly poor in grasping the deeper nuance of the hows and whys.
Marxism is an ugly reality. It premises itself upon the theory that unless everything is equal in outcome, there is inherent unfairness behind the failure for that reality. It’s poppycock! Humanity cannot be pigeonholed and engineered at all. It’s been tried again and again in history and failed at every turn. It takes generations to domesticate a dumb animal, yet these big thinkers believe in one man’s lifetime a sea change in the human experience can be manifest.
Marxism was an expedient answer, but not THE answer. It assumes that one man’s wealth is really every man’s wealth. Yeah, go to your neighbors and take his stuff, telling him it’s really yours too. Call me from jail and tell me how it turns out. In any era of man’s existence, but for the coming of Marx and his blatant wrongheadedness, to take the fruits of another man’s labor is to ask to be killed on the spot. All of human history shows this clearly. Only since Marx has there been any sense that what you have should be part mine. It’s the quintessential 8 year old’s argument and justification for childish acts and wishes.
Marxism seeks to address problems that do not exist here. Despite leftist talking points, there is no ingrained gentry or nobility in this nation. The closest thing the US has to that reality is the leftist family of the Kennedy’s, and with Teddy’s passing, that is gone too, Chris Matthews’ announcing “Barack is the last Kennedy brother” notwithstanding. The only “elite” in this nation is the self appointed elites of Hollywood and the left.
So since there are few modern day peasants in the US, what then is the leftist mantra about? It’s about whining malcontents and their over active imaginations of the ills in this nation. To them freedom is problematic because many will take that freedom and autonomy and do little with it in terms of wealth building, which considering the very nature of “freedom” and “autonomy” seems just fine. It’s an individual choice and leftists seem to generally rail against that concept.
For leftism to have any adherents there must be misery and leftism is forwarded as the answer. Well that is not the US in the main. Sure, there is poverty everywhere. The UK is a socialist haven and there is lots of poverty there, people living on the “estates” and total government handouts from taxpayers. Guess what? Even those supported by government are not nearly as well off as those who work, so clearly socialism isn’t the answer. The result has been a “professional” class of those on the “dole” living off of government. The parents live that way and their kids have grown up and live exactly the same way, yet now we are on generation number three following the lead. Does this sound like any sort of model for national and economic success? Only to a leftist it does.
It is my belief that die hard leftists are either totally misinformed and wrongheaded or engaged in an effort to extract a pound of flesh from us due to their extreme frustration. To hear them tell it, in demanding what they demand, they claim conservatism “has no new ideas.” Well that may be, but have you ever heard of the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” No, we are far from perfect, but were are not technically broken, merely imperfect. But in terms of perfection in delivery, Marxism is so far from the mark as to be laughable. The US system of personal freedoms and autonomy has delivered more in volume to the greatest portion of the population of any nation on Earth, the tiniest and most insular of nations notwithstanding.
Now they tell us “if only the right people did it, it would be successful!” BS! It’s been tried constantly in the last 125 years or so, and it’s a huge flop. Every attempt at true leftism is a flop. The more leftism incorporated into the leftist governing, the bigger the abortion that results. Look at the history books – it’s all right there in black and white, but as we know, leftist’s hate anything “black & white.” Leftism lives in the nuances of reality, and clearly not under the glaring light of reasonable examination the remainder of us are forced to exist under.
Lastly, to further expose American leftists for what they are, one of their favorite mantras to vomit forth is that conservatives are not thinkers. So lemme see….if I live in the most unique nation on Earth and refuse to follow along with a leftist wish and become a mirror image of the rest of the industrialized world, that is ME not being a thinker? Seems to me those seeing the model the rest of the world lives under and wishing to copy it, verbatim, is the epitome of NOT THINKING!
How hard is it to copy the other kid’s paper? Just look over at their desk and monkey see, monkey do! Whereas conservatism is all about looking at how everyone else trundles through their lives and saying, “I know a better way.” Then when we examine the FACTUAL history our independent way of doing things in the US is indeed far more effective, delivers more to each individual, and allows far more autonomy for every citizen, yet still a leftist screams conservatives are the idiots. Isn’t that odd? It clearly does not fit the facts. They want to play follow the leader (Marx) and we who do not agree tell them to go to Hell. It is THEY trying to FORCE unwanted change upon us, yet if we refuse, it is they who get hateful and deride us to the ends of the Earth.
And it’s me and mine that are not the thinkers? Gee, it’s not us following the example of the remainder of the industrialized world, so maybe we need to let leftists know how wrong they are. Do not knuckle under to their seizure of the touchy feely high ground. The real high ground is found supporting freedom for all men, and NOT found in going along with the crowd who isn’t smart enough to see their hopeful ideology is a flop. It’s in all the history books. Pick one up. I dare ya.
