If you were a fan of the East African food at Massawa in Upper Haight, the restaurant is now closed. They are not gone forever, however. Tablehopper reports that the owner is currently looking for a new spot to re-open. There is no word whether or not that new location will be in the Haight or elsewhere.
Massawa served lunch and dinner and offered a wide range of entrees including lamb, chicken, seafood, beef and vegetarian plates. Vegetable and meat sambusas, fritters stuffed with spiced beef or green peas and carrots, are their specialty appetizer, and they go great with anything on their long list of African beers and wine.
Massawa was located at 1538 Haight Street at Ashbury. Here’s hoping they reopen soon!
Closures: Massawa and Medici Lounge
