Show me yours and I’ll show you mine. As a child it the intent of competition and showing off your possessions as opposed to what your friends had. The older you became the intent was more salacious. In the world it seems to cast the imaginations of empires on a road to supremecy. No matter…the words still say the same thing…we all want to be better or have better then the next person.
So why this lament on my part? Maybe it is because sometimes we never are happy with what we already own…or are. The old score from “Annie Get your Gun” seems to opine the whole argument best…”Anything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better then you.” Well to be honest, I can’t bake a better pie then Marie Calendar or shoot a winged bird with a new archery set. I am who I am and sometimes forget to be content.
Now, don/t get me wrong. I do not for a minute endorse the idea of sloven living or not having ambition. we all need to be reaching for that something more. In fact, for me that comes into my Christian faith…to what made me become a Christian. But it is also a scriptural principle to be satisfied with what you already have and who you are.
So am I stating a contentious oration or a confusing belief? On the contrary I am stating a well-convinced truth for myself. As humans we have to have that part that seeks to have a vision and to work on it towards a greater good. Whether it’s a good for ourselves or others…have that vision. But, we also should live in the moment as well. Learn to appreciate your current state. I am not preaching some new age thinking…but clear truth. The 2 do work hand in hand.
I am always cast as someone that puts too many irons in the fire. That may be true but it follows the path of what I am saying. Life is to be experienced…and to be sated. I live the “Be still and know I am God”, while striving in His Creation for my life.
