The quads I will be reviewing are the Maybelline Eyestudio Quads NOT the Maybelline Stylish Smokes Quads which have also been a favorite amongst bloggers and Youtube. I found mine at my local CVS for $9.99. Yes it is quite pricey compared to the Stylish Smokes which are priced at around $5.99 so if you’re trying to save money I again would wait for a BoGo (Buy one Get one) or a buy one and get half price.
So I picked up 3 of these quads because I’m a sucker for colors. The ones I picked I think are best suited for everyday smokey look or a natural look for gals who prefer a cleaner and softer look. Also because these are quads, there can be different combinations of looks you can achieve. For instance, instead of using all four colors, you can only use two, or you can use three of the colors and wet your brush and use the darkest color to line your eyes. The versatility in this palette is a plus.
These quads don’t have individual eyeshadow names so you don’t have to worry about remembering too many names. Now I think that they are ok. Not amazing but not terrible. I think with the price they have them at I would want something really great especially for a drugstore brand but I can’t complain too much I guess. The colors are pretty pigmented especially when you pick them up with your finger. There is no problem picking the eyeshadow up with your brush, however the color is definitely not as pigmented as it would be if you picked it up with your finger. I have had some eyeshadows where I feel like I have to dip the brush in it several times for it to get remotely close to the color I want and this one could be categorized as one of them. Not only are some of the colors hard to pick up with your brush, they are easily blended away because of how soft the powder is. All the shadows in the quads have some sort of shimmer and there is no matte shadows to counter it. The one that is super sparkly is the highlight color in the quads, though that does fade if you use a brush to apply it. My favorite out of the three I’ve chose is probably Taupe Temptress. It looks really purple in the pan but I think the color comes out pretty neutral. Here are the swatches on my arm of each of the quads.
These will probably not be a repurchase for me just for the mere fact that it is expensive and very shimmery for my taste. However if you like shimmer and again prefer a softer look, I would recommend these for you.
