TMZ reports that Oksana Grigorieva is attempting to prove that Mel Gibson attacked several women he cheated on her with. Her goal is to prevent him from being awarded visitation rights to Lucia, their one-year-old daughter.
Dan Horowitz, Ms Grigorieva’s attorney, says her claims are being followed by an investigator. Her concern is that Gibson is too violent to be around the child. Meanwhile, the court has awarded him full visitation rights.
I am not certain why she is pursuing an avenue such as this, when there are credible reasons for denying or limiting access to Lucia. Gibson was arrested on DUI in July 2006 and went on a tirade while being arrested.. He apologized a few days later on NBC. The video can be seen here.
In July of this year,Fox News reported there was a tape where Gibson threatened to burn down Grigorieva’s house because she’d fallen asleep without having relations with him. He did not say it in a kind way. Other episodes involve a phone recording full of violence from Gibson.
I am troubled that a state like California, that has an extremely proactive domestic violence program, is allowing Gibson to be near his daughter. He beats Grigorieva and further threatens her, he drives his vehicle on highways with thousands of other drivers while intoxicated, threatening their lives by driving under the influence, and he sets off at law enforcement officers, showing no respect for authority. Why has the court given him the privilege of visiting with a young child who has no ability to protect herself?
There may be some protective measures within the order granting him the right to see his child. At least, I pray there is. I have seen too many battered children suffer because one parent was angry at the other, and took it out on the child.
