My husband and I have replaced nearly all of the light bulbs in our home with energy saving bulbs, but it honestly never occurred to me to look for energy saving night light bulbs.
We have a decorative small light in our living room that remains on day and night, and it uses night light sized bulbs. When the bulb burned out, I looked for replacements at my local Walmart store. I was very surprised to see a package of Meridian LED Night Light Bulbs, which claim to be mercury free LED bulbs, but are also energy efficient.
These came two bulbs to a package and retailed for around $3.50. Other standard night light bulbs were cheaper for packages of four, so these energy saver bulbs are indeed more expensive. However, they have a very long life and are energy efficient, meaning in the long run you save both money and energy.
The package states “Replace higher watt C7 standard incandescent bulbs with energy saving LED night light bulbs”. The back of the package says these Meridian LED Night Light Bulbs come with a lifetime guarantee. If the bulbs ever burn out you can mail them to the company for a free replacement.
There are a few cautions listed on the package, which I do not recall reading on the standard incandescent bulb packaging. These Meridian LED Night Light Bulbs should not contact bed covering or other material, they are for indoor use only, and they should not be used with an extension cord.
Meridian LED Night Light Bulbs are a smart choice because they use as much as 75% less electricity, they are cool to the touch, they only use 0.25 watts, and they do not contain any mercury (like other energy saving bulbs), so they are a smart choice for the environment.
Meridian LED Night Light Bulbs look just like the incandescent night light bulb we replaced, but the package we purchased is a “white light”. It definitely does look white, but it doesn’t give off nearly as much light as our old bulb did. However, as use for a night light, we really don’t need a bright light, we just need a light to guide us in a dark room, and these do that nicely.
I don’t recall ever buying a light bulb that came with a lifetime guarantee, and I am so glad that I will not have to be replacing the bulbs in my night lights for a very long time! Not only will these save me on energy costs, they will save gas because I have actually made a trip to the store just to buy night light bulbs, and with gas being $3.37 a gallon, this is substantial savings as well.
Bottom line is that I feel good about using these bulbs. I will be replacing all of my night lights with them, except for my Meridian LED Night Light, which already has a built in bulb.
