Michael Vick injury news is just part of a hard morning in Philadelphia. The Michael Vick injury yesterday deflated Eagles Nation, after it gave into Vick mania in the last two weeks. With the long awaited return of Donovan McNabb finally at hand, the Eagles hoped that McNabb’s second replacement could make his biggest statement. Instead, the Eagles had to turn to McNabb’s first replacement, and suffered for it – and for many other reasons. Now the Michael Vick injury is the talk of the town, as Philadelphia hopes he isn’t gone for too long.
The day got off to a miserable start well beforehand, as the Eagles’ defense gave up a 14-0 early deficit to the Redskins. However, Vick seemed set to strike back with a drive of his own, culminating in a run to the goal line. But he was stopped by crushing hits on both sides, from Kareem Moore and DeAngelo Hall.
Today, the Michael Vick injury is labeled to be a rib cartilage crack, according to Andy Reid. But there is no timetable yet for how long he will be out, as Reid says it is “week-to-week” Yet even if it is for just a week or two, Eagles fans will be no less worried.
Kevin Kolb once again inspired no confidence in relief, although he did get the Eagles’ only touchdown, and was close to getting a Hail Mary miracle at the end. In addition, the Michael Vick injury might not hurt Philadelphia next week, as they visit the 0-4 49ers. But the gap between the Eagles’ offense with Vick, and with Kolb, widened even further yesterday.
Of course, Philadelphia lost yesterday for many more reasons. The defense utterly collapsed in the first quarter, and time management cost the offense a shot at a touchdown before halftime. The team has a lot of holes left to plug, although in the suddenly parity-stricken NFC East, they can still stay in contention.
Yet most of Philadelphia likely believes that will be easier after the Michael Vick injury heals. But even when it does, it will be questionable if the same old Vick will be on display. According to DeSean Jackson, he even warned Vick about the punishment he was taking, before he got knocked out of the game.
The Eagles’ season has already gone through surreal twists and turns in just four weeks. Fans have already seen Kolb injured, Vick rise and fall, and McNabb get his revenge in the meantime. If the Michael Vick injury derails them further this month, Philadelphia will have more reason to focus on the Phillies instead.
