“Who owns my heart” is the second single to be released from her Can’t Be Tamed album. As seen in her previous music video for single Can’t be Tamed, Miley is embracing a more mature look. In an attempt to appeal to a broader audience, Miley dances at a club, gets ready in front of a mirror, walks around in her underwear, and gyrates inside her limo.
The video follows a formula typically seen in dance videos complete with a pulsing beat, whispered lyrics, and the age old question of whether it’s love or just the music keeping you two together. While not the most original dance song, the beat is catchy and is potentially appealing to the non-Disney crowd.
I wouldn’t expect this version of her video to play on the Disney network as is typically done in between shows. As previously mentioned, some parents might not endorse it as child-appropriate.
The video begins by cutting back and forth from Miley’s bedroom to the club. We find her lying on a bed, blindfolded and singing in her underwear. We then follow her to the bathroom and watch her getting ready, all while singing in front of the mirror, still not wearing pants. Not yet at the club, we then follow Miley’s limo ride where we cut back and forth from dancing in her bedroom, to getting ready in the bathroom, and dancing on a pool table. In the final scenario, Miley is seen shaking it on the dance floor and rubbing up against a number of guys and girls.
Miley seems to be sending us a clear message that she wants to be seen as an adult. As seen with many other young female artists before her, we are witnessing Miley’s transformation and emergence as a woman.
