It is common to find construction paper used in almost every preschool craft. Spend any time around children, especially those of preschool age, and you will witness them often grow tired of crafting with the same material.
With that in mind, I suggest allowing preschoolers to step outside of their comfort zones and to let them work with a new medium. When crafting for Thanksgiving, mini pumpkins are a unique and inexpensive craft medium.
Suggested Supplies for this Thanksgiving craft:
Markers (we use colored sharpies)
Newspaper or other material to work over
1. Lay out the newspaper to protect the work surface.
2. Thoroughly clean the mini pumpkins with dish soap and warm water.
3. Give your preschoolers free reign to decorate the mini pumpkins. They can write their names or draw pictures or designs with the markers, the glitter glue, or any other craft supply you provide to them.
Or, you can take this time to explain the meaning of Thanksgiving and ask your preschoolers to name things that make them thankful. Then help them spell and write the names of the people, animals, activities, or objects that they are thankful for having in their lives.
While this isn’t a complicated craft, it does allow preschoolers the chance to craft with an unusual object and to continue to express their individuality in creating this unique craft for Thanksgiving.
Proudly display the decorated mini pumpkins and continue to instill in your preschooler that art can be found in, and on, anything.
