The MLB playoff schedule 2010 is controlled by the American League today. But tomorrow’s MLB playoff schedule 2010 could be pretty crowded, with as many as four games possible. Of course, that will only happen if both American League series’ go to four games. At this point, few believe that is possible, as it seems at least one team will clinch an ALCS berth today. Thanks to the Rangers and Yankees dominating on the road, they can go to the next stage on the playoff schedule with one home win.
At 5:07 pm est, the Rangers can make history by winning their first ever postseason series. What’s more, they can do it in front of their long suffering home crowd in Arlington, after sweeping the Rays on the road. Although Tampa Bay had the AL’s best record, they didn’t play like it in Games 1 and 2.
The MLB playoff schedule 2010 will have its first ALCS participant, if the Rangers shut the Rays down one more time. The Rays will send Matt Garza out to save their season, with the Rangers starting Colby Lewis. Since Tampa Bay isn’t facing Cliff Lee or C.J. Wilson, they may feel a bit more confident.
If the Rays survive, they have to have the same luck tomorrow afternoon in order to send things back to Tampa Bay. It may be unlikely at this point, but the Rays may have a better chance to extend their series than the Twins do.
Thus far, the playoffs have looked like many others lately – with the Yankees on the verge of sweeping the Twins. This time, they got to the brink by taking two games at Target Field, proving that they own the Twins in any environment. Tonight at 8:37 pm est, the Yankees return to their home environment to finish things off.
Since the Twins can’t seem to beat the Yankees anywhere, winning just one game may qualify as a big step forward. But since they had home field this year, and since the Yankees came in struggling, it has still been a bitter missed opportunity. It can be even bitterer if Phil Hughes pitches the Yankees to another sweep tonight.
If the Rangers and Yankees win today, the ALCS will be all set with a week to spare. With the format of the MLB playoffs, both team wouldn’t play again until Friday, starting in Texas. After never winning a postseason series, the Rangers could host the ALCS all of a sudden – but would likely still be a major underdog.
The Yankees have had their way with the Twins in this decade, like they had their way with the Rangers in the mid-to-late ’90s. Now the playoff schedule can pit the Yankees against another old punching bag, if they and the Rangers win tonight.
Two parties could take place in Arlington and New York, starting at 5 pm on TBS.
