There was no joy in New York City tonight as the Texas Rangers shut out the Bronx Bombers 8-0 in a dominating performance by Rangers pitcher Cliff Lee. It was 2-0 going into the ninth inning and Texas scored six insurance runs to make it look easy.
Cliff Lee Shuts Out the Yankees
Rangers ace Cliff Lee remained on top of his game tonight and was virtually unhittable. He had an amazing 13 strikeouts, only walked one, and only gave up two hits in eight innings. Scary good. Lee could pitch again in a game six this weekend if necessary. Andy Petitte put in a good effort for the Yankees in only giving up five hits over seven innings, but he was overmatched by Lee tonight.
Rangers Offensive Notes
Except for Michael Young and Josh Hamilton the Rangers started off a little slow, but with the way Lee was pitching it really didn’t make a difference anyway. The rest of the Rangers woke up to score six runs in the top of the ninth, including four straight run-scoring hits and another run scored on a wild pitch. Michael Young had three hits, and Josh Hamilton had two, including a homer to lead the Rangers in RBIs.
