There is nothing in the world quite as nice as a modern supermarket. You really can find almost anything there: books, liquor, dairy products, sundries, firewood, repair products, groceries, and warm dog pillows.
Staying true to my list, the first item was return ‘The Last Airbender’ and ‘Christmas Carol’ to the redbox kiosk, and check out two more. Tomorrow we are scheduled to get a lot of snow, so we are catching up on movies we want to see again or missed for some reason.
The next item was right down the aisle at the end: a dozen eggs. I don’t much care for eggs, but I am a minority voter in that election. From there I headed for the fresh vegetables, and halfway there, in a special stand in the aisle, were big, fluffy dog pillows with fleece on one side and cotton on the other. There was a zipper on the side, making the cover washable. They were marked fifty percent off, also, bringing the cost down to fifteen dollars. The first color, mud brown, was depressing. I checked the next color, a light green. That was much better. I know it will show dirt more quickly, but it just seemed like a happier color. I put it in the basket and walked a bit further.
Two more aisles down I found Dole pineapple on sale for 99 cents a can – and it is the nice can with the pop top. The red onions were top quality; I only needed one, and found it quickly. Cake mixes were on sale for 99 cents, also. I got a white and a chocolate cake mix. We seldom have cake, but it is nice to have a mix if we get unexpected company.
Every time I checked an item off my list, I looked at the dog pillow, making sure it was going to hold up for the season against our pesky lab. Flag likes to move things. She has an Igloo dog house, and grabs it with her teeth to move it around the yard. With our acreage, that covers a lot of territory. When the mood strikes her, she enjoys relocating her fluffy pillows. I picked the blanket up again, hefted it, compared the fluff of the filling, and decided again that it was perfect for her.
When I got home, she was tucked up tightly on the other pillow, which was still outside her Igloo. I showed her the new pillow and laid it in her house. Since it was an extra large dog pillow, it fit across the entire area. Flag walked in, turned around, and laid down. Giving me a doggie grin and that soulful look in her brown eyes, I think she whispered, “Thanks, Mom!”
