I have two children and with both of them I had pictures taken every month until their first birthday. Kids change so much during that first year that I wanted to make sure I captured every change that month. With my first child I started a scrap book to keep the pictures in but I wasn’t completely satisfied with that because they weren’t being displayed for everyone to see. Now with my second child I came up with a neat and easy craft to make to display my child’s monthly pictures where everyone can see.
You will need these materials:
1 coat rack with 3 of 4 pegs
12 photo frames
12 Hook and ring hardware
Ribbon (blue for boy, pink for girl)
To make this craft you will:
Beginning with the coat rack, if you don’t have one you can easily make one with a board (old fence boards works good if you’re going for a western look or antique look) and 3 or 4 pegs. Make sure the board is long enough to hang 3 or 4 picture frames from. Glue or nail or screw your pegs into your board.
After you have made or obtained your coat rack you can paint it if it doesn’t match your style or your décor. I painted my baby blue because my baby was a boy. Then I wrote my baby’s name at the top and put “From the day he was born” (put the date) and then put his weight and height at his birth “To his first birthday” (you can put the date again or not) and put his weight and height he is at his first birthday. If you have enough room you can also put his hand print (or footprint) on the wood, with his newborn handprint on the left side and his 1 year old handprint on the right side.
Next you will need to super glue the hook hardware to the bottom of 9 picture frames (if you have 3 across on the coat rack or 8 if you have 4 across). Make sure the hook is in the center of each picture frame.
Next you will need to glue a loop to the top of each picture frame except the first row. The first row will have the hook in the bottom of the picture frame but not the loop at the top of the picture frames. Make sure the loop is also in the exact center of the picture frame.
Thread the ribbon through the picture hanger on the back of the frames for the first row. Each picture frame will have one ribbon tied through it. Make sure the ribbon is long enough to reach the peg on the coat rack and long enough to make the picture frame hang below the coat rack.
Now hook in each picture to the loops and so they each hang down below each other.
Put your baby’s newborn picture in the first picture frame on the top row at the left hand side. Then put baby’s 2nd month picture in the next frame, 3rd in the next and so on and so forth until the 1 year picture in the very last picture frame in the bottom right.
Hang your display proudly somewhere in your house. You can hang it out in a room that everyone will see it or hang it in your bedroom or you baby’s bedroom.
