Rainy days, especially when they fall on a weekend, can be depressing. If you want to boost your mood and don’t mind a little bit of work, there is a one-day project you can do. If you have help, this project will be easier.
Change your environment.
Gotten tired of the way your bedroom looks? Why not change things around? You would not believe what a boost this can be to your mood. The extra plus of doing this project is that it lasts a long time – well, at least until you desire a change again.
Here is how to get started. Look around your space and mentally envision how you will rearrange the furniture. Get out a tape measure before you move heavy furniture around to make sure that it will fit. Not everyone has an eye that can judge space correctly. Once you have measured and have a plan, start by moving the largest item out into the hallway in order to free up space to move things easily. Your bed might be easiest to move out of the room. While you are moving your bed, remove sheets, pillowcases, bed skirt and even your curtains in order to get a fresh start.
Throw all your bed linens in the washer before continuing on your room makeover. Place pillows onto your couch while you move things around. As you are moving furniture, vacuum where you move pieces away from walls. Use a feather duster to clean baseboards and don’t forget the walls that were covered by taller dressers. Clean as you move and it won’t feel like all you are doing is a heavy-duty cleaning.
Once you have the furniture arranged the way that you want, remember the bed linens in the washing machine. Put them into the dryer and return to finish the job at hand. This is the perfect opportunity to get organized. Even the most clutter-free bedroom can get out of control. Your new look may require new ways of storing items and maybe it will even free up more space. Take a look around and see the room coming together. From moving everything you can now see where the “problem” areas of your room were. Avoid re-cluttering by either getting rid of items that you never use or storing them in a better place for you to use them.
When your linens are dry, make up your bed, re-hang your curtains and take a look at your finished product. This is bound to lift your mood and make your bedroom into a happier, more enjoyable room to be in. Who says rainy days can’t be productive?
