Watched the first show of Dancing With The Stars last night, and here are some of my thoughts regarding the contestants. See if you agree.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrenino & Karina Smirnoff
First of all, why in the world did Karina chop off her hair? And second of all, why in the world did Karina dump Maksim Chmerkovsky last season? She made a HUGE mistake on both fronts. Now that we have that out of the way, how did Mike “The Situation” do the first week, in my humble opinion of course? I didn’t think he did that bad. I thought he’d be terribly conceited and arrogant, but he came across as a cute dude who was doing his best to look cool doing an uncool dance. He tried. I give him an A plus for that.
Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas
I can sum it up in one word – AWKWARD. Before she even did one dance move, Bristol made me want to stick my finger down my throat when they introduced her as an “advocate for preventing teen pregnancy” and that was right after they showed a picture of her and her cute little baby boy. And what was with that dowdy, frumpy Laura Bush looking suit she was wearing at the beginning of the show? She did better later on in that red fringe dress, but she was still terribly self-conscious and not a very good dancer. I’m not sure if Mark Ballas is going to be able to get through that brick wall.
Michael Bolton & Chelsie Hightower
The first thing I noticed was how relieved Chelsie was not to be dancing with that dork Jake Pavelka from last season. I’m sure she has tried to erase the whole experience from her memory. Michael Bolton is a nice guy. I liked when he sang “When A Man Loves A Woman” back in the day. But we haven’t been turned on by Michael in quite a while, so we’re not really that much into him on Dancing With The Stars. Michael and Chelsie look like father and daughter and pairing people like that together always makes for awkwardness and icksville.
Kurt Warner & Anna Trebunskaya
Another yawnfest really. Kurt seemed like a nice guy. He was probably a very good football player. But he didn’t seem like he was really all that excited about dancing last night. And just for the record, I didn’t like it when, the second the dance was over, he left Anna’s side and ran over to go kiss his wife in the audience. That just makes him look like a whooped kind of guy. Was that really necessary? It wasn’t romantic. It was pathetic. Kurt, grow some, will ya?
Rick Fox & Cheryl Burke
Lucky Cheryl gets another hunky sports guy this time around. I really do think she had her heart broken in a thousand pieces by that Chad Ochocinco last season. But maybe Rick can mend that broken heart. Is Rick Fox married, engaged, or otherwise involved? I’ll have to do some internet digging to find out. Then I’ll let Cheryl know. In the meantime, she did a very good job with teaching Rick to dance this week. She’s a pro at what she does.
Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough
Tearjerk Alert!! Jennifer brought out the waterworks when she apparently thought about Patrick Swayze during one of the dances. Can’t say I blame her though. Just looking at her, made me think of him too. He was too young to die. But hey. We’re watching DWTS. We have to perk up a bit here. Jennifer & Derek were fantastic dancing tonight. I guess Patrick taught her well back in the day so Derek has a lot to work with.
David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson
Why is it that David always comes across as a perverted sort of guy? Maybe it’s just me, but David doesn’t come across as sexy to me. But apparently he does for some other ladies. Luckily he’s paired with Kym Johnson on DWTS. Kym is a hottie, but she’s an older hottie. If David was with, say, Chelsie Hightower, it would have appeared pedophilia-like to watch them together. I’m just sayin’. For some reason, David creeps me out. He seems like a fun guy, but let’s keep him at arm’s length, shall we?
Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas
Florence did really good. I was surprised. Since she’s an old-head, I was so worried that she would be spending most of her dancing time on the floor like Cloris Leachman did. But Florence didn’t. She actually looked fabulous and had some great dance moves that gave the younger dancers a run for their money. Good going, Mrs. Brady!!
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer
What a surprise these two were, weren’t they? My first thoughts were “What was Lacey thinking when she dyed her hair blonde?” Then I was wondering who Kyle Massey was. Since he was short and a little on the heavy side, I didn’t expect much. But boy was I wrong! He did some good moves out there and was very entertaining. Can’t wait to see what he does next week.
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
What can I say here other than Maksim truly makes the whole show for me. Thank God for the rewind button on my DVR. I need to watch some of his dance moves a couple of times in a row. Oh yeah, about his partner Brandy. She was good. Very good actually, so I think Maksim will have a great time on the dance floor with her this season. And the reason why that’s important is that Maksim will stick around a lot longer for me to watch.
Margaret Cho and Louis van Amstel
I’ve seen Margaret Cho’s stand-up act as a comedienne and she’s a very funny lady, especially when she imitates her cute little mother and her accent. And I think it was very brave of Margaret to go on DWTS and strut her stuff. Louis does have his work cut out for him though, but I think he’s up for the challenge. We’ll never forget how much he transformed Kelly Osbourne. To this day, she looks fabulous, and I think it all started with being on this show and gaining confidence. Not to mention all the exercise.
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani
Ya know, I expected better from Audrina, I really did. For a young pretty girl that I thought would have had lots of club dancing experience, she looked kind of stiff and awkward out on the dance floor. However, I think Tony will have a lot less drama to deal with this time around than he did when he was paired with Kate Gosselin. Maybe he’ll actually have fun this season, as long as Audrina steps up to the plate and starts to move.
So that’s the line-up for this season, and it looks like the competition will be pretty tight between a couple of those stars. The one professional dancer I miss this season is Edyta Sliwinska. She was a very sexy dancer who always made whoever she was dancing with look really good. But we have Maksim, and he’s the ultimate so I’m not complaining. Let’s see what happens.
