Last fall at a writers meet-up, the Western Ohio Writer’s Association, I was introduced to Associated Content. It was exciting to think about publishing my work. I looked into it that very night and the next day published my first article. Everyone who joined Associated Content in October and published ten articles would receive a bonus amount and I struggled and was able to published ten articles. I am very good with a deadline! In November with no one pushing me, I published four. In December only one, but it was picked up and published in a local paper!
You would think I would be flushed with success and write, write, write but December is a busy month and then in January depression sets in for the whole winter. In February I was very sick for the entire month and so my depression had to be rescheduled for March and April. By May I was perking up with the nice weather and wrote two more articles.
By the end of the month it was clear with my husbands new found diabetes we had to change our lifestyle. So I began writing in earnest. I wrote about our lives and the dietary changes and began reading other peoples content to help make our changes. I found more and more friends on Associated Content and because I was feeling wonderful and energetic with the better foods I was consuming I really had fun traveling and writing and taking photos for slide shows.
What a great summer. I wrote eleven articles in June, thirteen in July including four slideshows. In august I published twenty four articles including nine slideshows. I was so busy though. I had visitors or was a visitor the entire month and it was difficult to find the time to write, read and comment. But I really worked at it.
I don’t own a laptop. I have an iPod Touch that works when I am in a location with wifi. It’ is limited because it does not support the comments on AC and so I must catch up when I can get on a regular computer.
September, brought me the discovery I could send in articles for upfront payment. Oh joy! I began doing reviews, and other types of articles that were not all about me! Page views started bringing in a little during the summer but now I was actually seeing deposits in my Paypal account for my articles!
September also brought illness, this time to my father in law in another state. Traveling every week for several days has become the norm. Aside from a scheduled trip to New England with a friend, I’ve been doing a ballet of hospital visits, restaurants and highway driving and back home to laundry, dusting and cooking and writing. It has been a circus.
Suddenly I realized my year anniversary had passed and my 100th article was coming up. So to combine the two this article is perfectly timed. I almost have 100 fans, incredible as that sounds, and my education has skyrocketed with reading great articles here on Associated Content. You all are amazing. During the hours in the different hospital waiting rooms I read many, many articles even though I could not comment. You have kept me very entertained to be sure!
My father in law, who is eighty five, is overcoming two major surgeries, pneumonia and a mis-communication with the doctor over wanting a ventilator when needed. He is one amazing person. He may even be going back to his log home on a lake in rural Kentucky one day soon.
I don’t have numbers like many of you, but I do have one crazy article that has 3373 hits as of today. My highest individual day was here and I had 739. That shocked me. I had been traveling that day and hadn’t made a single comment. I even made the most commented list, once that I know of for this one .
I want to say thank you all for reading! Thank you for your encouraging comments. It’s been a fantastic year!
