Last January my husband and I both went on Weight Watchers. We used the web site to follow the plan as opposed to going to meetings. I really liked using the web site and the flexibility of the whole diet plan. My husband was given a lot more points than I was. I was given just 17 points per day. I only wanted to lose 20 maybe 25 pounds. My husband wanted to lose about the same.
On the points plan you can eat whatever you want but you have to stay within your allotted points for the day. You could get extra points for doing different kinds of exercises. To determine how many points you were using you would input everything you ate on to the web site and it would calculate it for you. After a couple of weeks you start to figure out what you shouldn’t eat
It became our goal to eat as much food as we could while staying in our points so we began to change the way we made things. For instance we have tacos every Tuesday, we wanted to keep doing that but with the way we were making tacos I could only eat one and my husband could only eat two. That was not enough for either one of us so we switched to corn tortillas which were less points, we switched to 2% milk cheese which was less points but still had flavor, and low fat sour cream. Then I cooked peppers and onions in to the meat to make the meat go further without adding extra points. That way we could still enjoy our tacos without blowing our diet.
You can use recipes on the Weight Watchers site or you could create your own and get the points calculated for you and you could save all of your favorite recipes in your favorites section.
The first three days I was on the diet I have to admit I was struggling. I was really hungry and I was tempted to cheat. I mentioned this on another site I was on and I got some suggestions for things that I could eat that were 1 or 0 points. Finding those types of things made life a whole lot easier. My husband snacked on pickles a lot to get through. I would eat green beans like they were French fries. I also found these Green Giant single serve vegetables in cheese that made for a nice tasty 1 point snack. I also bought some sundried tomato flat bread crackers that I would spread some Laughing Cow Cheese on as a snack. I could eat two of them for 1 point and it kind of tasted like a dry pizza. I also would have a cup of chocolate no fat pudding as an afternoon snack, and a half a cup of no fat chocolate ice cream after dinner. I am a chocoholic and I could not totally give it up, but thanks to the ice cream and pudding I didn’t have to. I also made a 0 point soup that I made weekly and kept in the fridge at all times, at any point that I was feeling weak I would get myself a bowl of the soup. This soup was a life saver and so full of healthy things.
After my first week I had lost 3 pounds. I consistently seemed to lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week. After 8 weeks my husband had lost 28 pounds and I had lost 18. It has been about 9 months since we went off of Weight Watchers and I have kept of 13 of the 18 that I had lost. My husband gained back most of it and lost it again and now is back up again. But he is either dieting or out of control with his eating and he has been eating a lot lately. I don’t blame Weight Watchers or the plan at all for his yo-yoing weight that is all on him.
After the holidays I plan on going on Weight Watchers again. I would like to get those 5 pounds back off of me and maybe a few extra. I am only 5 foot ½ inch so 5 pounds makes a big difference on my body. I am not afraid to go on Weight Watchers again like I have been with other diets. I know what to expect now and I know what I can safely do to keep myself satisfied.
I highly recommend the Weight Watchers point system and especially the web site. You don’t have to be a good either you can always just purchase premade meals and Weight Watcher products. Progressive makes a whole line of canned soups that are 0, 1 or 2 points. After the first week you will find yourself getting in to the whole point thing. It helps to do it with someone else as we could share how we were feeling and joke about things that we considered to be expensive points wise.
I have never done such as easy and flexible diet. It can easily be tailored to anybodies on particular needs. Weight Watchers worked for me and I am confident it will work again.
