I started with my Weight Watcher journey on June 4, 2008. I am on a tight budget so I decided not to go to meetings or pay for online counseling. I decided to try it on my own. I bought a book off of Ebay and did some reading on tips and pointers. At first I was totally appalled and overwhelmed with the number of points I could consume. I was accustomed to eating at least twice as many! Without lying, the first week was hard!
The best tip I learned was to start a food journal. Not only did I keep track of every single bite I took, I kept track of how much water I drank in one day and how many times I exercised in one week! On the top of each page of the week I wrote my current weight and my goal weight. It was exciting to see that number creeping closer together.
Another help I found was to keep baby carrots in the fridge and eat those when I got hungry between meals. After I ate a few carrots, I would drink a glass of water and would usually be able to hold out until the next meal.
I gave myself one month to see if this diet actually worked or not. By the end of the month, I had lost 10 pounds already! It was very exciting and encouraging! I decided to step it up and buy the Weight Watcher Smart Ones meals. There are a lot of different varieties and usually I could find good coupons for them. I would eat a Weight Watcher muffin for breakfast and have a Smart One for dinner. For supper, I would usually eat a regular meal with my husband and children.
For exercise, I walked at least one day a week and went to Curves for Women four or five days a week. That program along with the women’s support there, really kept me motivated to keep going! I actually had three women tell me,” I looked at you and thought, if you can do it so can I!” One went on to lose 40 pounds, also!
Another smart tip I learned was to make sure you do splurge once in a while, and do not feel guilty about it! It actually helps you to lose weight if you do not follow your diet to the letter one day every two weeks or so! It makes your metabolism work that much harder.
We went to Cancun the following January and my goal was to lose 30 pounds! I made it! I actually made another goal to try to lose another 15 pounds and made that also six months later! All in all, I lost 48 pounds all together. I have kept it off for two years now and will be using this same plan again in May, after I have my third child!
It is possible, you can do it!
