I’m feeling old today. When I heard the news that 70’s teen idol David Cassidy was arrested Wednesday evening in Florida on suspicion of DUI, I was shocked! One, because reports say he’s 60, and two, I remember him, so I must be getting old. I’m not complaining mind you, but still I can’t believe little clean cut David Cassidy (aka Keith Partridge) was pulled over for DUI. My old teen idol failed two sobriety tests and had an opened bottle of bourbon found during the search of his Mercedes.
Reports say he was apologetic to the officer who pulled him over. He was booked at a nearby jailed and was released early this morning when he paid his $300 bail. All of this happened ironically on the same day his half brother Shaun Cassidy appeared on Oprah with older heart throb Peter Frampton and the younger Back Street Boys.
I hadn’t thought of David Cassidy in years until this news broke, but back in the day I had a crush on him like many other teen girls did during that time, and I faithfully watched “The Partridge Family.”
My opinion of David Cassidy’s best songs included: “Daydreamer,” “Cherish,” and “I Think I Love You!” I remember listening to his records and singing along for hours at a time. He was so handsome back then. Another song of his I liked was “Somebody to Love.” Cassidy was the first to have a hit with “I Write the Songs,” which was a Top 20 record in the UK before becoming Barry Manilow’s signature song.
It was 1970 when Cassidy signed to be in “The Partridge Family” TV show. He played the part of Keith Partridge, son of his TV mom Shirley Partridge, who was also his real life step mom, Shirley Jones. He is the son of actor Jack Cassidy and biological mother Evelyn Ward. Cassidy also made some appearances in 1969 TV shows such as Ironside, Marcus Welby, MD, and Bonanza.
Although I hated to hear about David’s DUI, I have enjoyed remembering some of his old songs and reminiscing a bit. Thanks for indulging me for a few moments.
