The NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, NYC Housing Development Corporation, Dunn Development Corp, and Pratt Area Community Council broke ground on the Navy Green development project. The former naval prison and industrial block will be transformed into a mixed-use, mixed-income community development providing affordable housing and critical community services.
The Navy Green project is part of Mayor Bloomberg’s New Housing Marketplace Plan financing 165,000 affordable housing units around the city. When completed, the Navy Green will supply 458 residential units, 8,000 square feet of commercial space, and 32,000 square feet of green space.
“I have high expectations for this transformation; and most importantly, I know this project will provide services and housing to a part of Fort Greene that is in need of it. The timing is right, the project is right,” stated Council Member Letitia James.
