Between the “Myrtle Eats Fresh” farm stand and the Lafayette Youth Market, you’d think Clinton Hill sits smack in the middle rolling plains full of vegetable gardens and the like.
Clinton Hill has a few more buildings than that, of course, but these days there are so many urban gardens that the hood could rival some rural farmsteads for produce per foot of land, and most definitely produce per foot of concrete.
However abundant fresh produce appears to be in Clinton Hill, it is not year round. Our winters are a bit harder than those in sunny California, and we just don’t have the space for all the green houses anyways.
No, the truth is we know all about seasons and this produce season is wrapping up for the Lafayette Youth Market, but there are still a few weeks left as they will still be slinging greens every Friday from 1-7pm through October 29th.
So get down there (at Lafayette and Washington avenues) before the end of the season and bask in the glory of Clinton Hill’s abundant produce. It’ll make you wonder why they ever bothered to make the Mid-west.
