New documents in the case of Casey Anthony include emails from Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother. The emails, dated from 2008, show Cindy Anthony’s growing concern over Casey Anthony’s behavior and her distress over the absence of her granddaughter, two-year-old Caylee Anthony. Caylee’s body was found December 11, 2008.
Emails between Cindy Anthony’s mother and aunt reveal that the sisters began to worry as time dragged on without any contact with Caylee. The two women began to get suspicious that Casey was contacting her mother, Cindy, but not allowing Cindy to talk to her granddaughter, Caylee. In the emails, the sisters discuss the curious fact that the contact phone numbers Casey had given to Cindy were all non-working numbers.
The documents are being released in response to a failed bid to have the records sealed. On Friday, October 29, Casey Anthony’s defense team requested the court seal the Orange County jail’s public records on the case. Chief Judge Belvin Perry denied the request.
The newly released documents show photocopies of seven checks, drawn on Cindy Anthony’s bank account, with forged signatures. The checks total hundreds of dollars and are written to local stores and pharmacies. Casey Anthony was originally sent to jail for stealing and forging a friend’s checks.
Also included in the documents are emails from a jail guard to investigators detailing Casey’s reaction when she learned Caylee’s body had been found. According to the emails, Casey fell into a chair and doubled over. Guards feared she was going to hyperventilate, but a minute later she began fidgeting and asking to call her attorney.
Among the documents are details of the authorization for tracking devices installed on family member’s cars and wire taps on family member’s phones. Many of the documents relate to the Anthony’s finances. There are also copies of hundred of letters to Casey, some from men who have become infatuated with Casey and feel she is innocent. In a letter to Casey, Cindy Anthony reveals how much she misses Caylee and states, “I still see her.”
