Since former Fire Chief Wil White retired in June, Assistant Fire Chief Patrick M. Mulligan had been serving as Acting Fire Chief. On October 13, Royal Oak City Manager Donald E. Johnson announced that Mulligan had been officially appointed to be the new fire chief for Royal Oak Fire Department.
Mulligan has been with the Royal Oak Fire Department for more than 25 years. He’s served in many different capacities throughout that quarter-century, including Firefighter EMT, Sergeant and Lieutenant. He will be Royal Oak’s fourteenth fire chief. The Royal Oak Fire Department is always very busy; the fact that Mulligan has worn so many different hats through the years – and that he’s been with the department for so long – makes him a natural choice for the position.
