The Convenant Community Health Care Centers are not new to Michigan but this one located on 27776 Woodward in Royal Oak Michigan is; it opened on October 6, 2010. There is a big need for medical care and many people don’t have insurance anymore as a result of the massive layoffs and company closings which occurred in 2008 and 2009 in Michigan.
The Convenant Community Health Care Center will offer a wide range of services including primary care, obstetrical, pediatric care and wellness checks. It is a non-profit, faith based center and Beaumont Hospital is providing 1.4 million dollars in financial support and in-kind donations such as laboratory testing as reported by the Freep.com. They hope that this will cut down on the number of emergency room visits made by people who can’t afford medical care and wait until whatever condition they have has become a serious condition.
Not only will this much needed new health center provide low-cost medical care they will also accept Medicaid, Medicare and commercial insurance. The Daily Tribune reports that the average cost of a visit will be between $20 and $40 dollars for the uninsured and under-insured patients.
The Convenant Community Health Care Center is a federally qualified center and they are hoping to get federal grants to help cover the cost of care and medications.
This is a service that is desperately needed in Michigan and The Convenant Community Health Care Center in Royal Oak, Michigan hopes to help at least 8,000 people a year. I am fortunate enough to have health insurance but I know a lot of people who don’t and behalf of them and everyone else who is not insured I would just like to say; thank you and I really hope this health care center is a huge success.
