As the many avid fans of Twitter have discovered over the past few years, the social marketing site is a great way to share your quick thoughts with the world and connect with others. From celebrities to local politicians, everyday moms to world leaders, the site has quickly gained speed as one of the premier social networking destinations on the web. Twitter further cemented its place in the online world with the unveiling of the new Twitter on Tuesday, which implements a streamlined video and photo feed within the existing Twitter structure.
A session featuring CEO Evan Williams and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone announced the changes to the system at the company’s San Francisco headquarters. The site, which receives more than 90 million tweets daily, has inked deals with 16 different companies, in an effort to streamline the Twitter experience. Furthermore, the site hopes that users will begin to expand upon their personal identities on Twitter. In order to implement these changes, the site has included more prominent personal details on Twitter users’ profiles.
Many of the background applications of the system have also been rewritten. The company is planning on rolling out the changes slowly to the millions of Twitter users across the world in the weeks to come. The new Twitter version also implements a different API for developers, which is intended to bring about security and stability to the existing framework.
In addition to the changes behind-the-scenes, Twitter users will notice many changes on the site’s surface. For example, @replies will now appear on the right side of users’ browser screens. Photos and videos from Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo, and many of the other Twitter partners, will also be appearing in this area of the screen. Other changes include a more streamlined search function and a faster response time. Twitter hopes that all of these changes will prove useful and inviting to both existing Twitter users and advertisers alike.
