New York City is on edge this afternoon as police and bomb squads are rushing to a cemetery in the Lower East Side of Manhattan after C-4 explosives were found. Initial reports indicate that there was no detonating device attached to the explosives. C-4 is a material that is stronger than regular dynamite and is used by military operations to destroy infrastructure and buildings.
Traffic around the area has been stopped and given that it is Columbus Day, a day that is one of the peak days for tourists around New York City and that is currently featuring a large Columbus Day Parade in midtown, regular traffic patterns for a Monday are disrupted anyway across most of Manhattan.
Details are sketchy at the present time as to what exactly is transpiring and who might be a suspect, but for a city that is constantly in the cross hairs for terrorism and threats, it is causing a fair amount of concern in the city.
More details as the story develops.
