The NFL power rankings 2010 for Week 13 are about the same. Yet the NFL power rankings 2010 after Week 13 will be radically different, at least in the AFC. This coming weekend has two prime time battles between potential top 5 teams, all of which are AFC powers. Not only could those game determine the new top teams, they could determine the favorites for a Super Bowl berth. Therefore, the Week 13 NFL power rankings appear to be the calm before the storm.
There are still three two-loss teams leading the way, as has been the case in the last few weeks. The Patriots and Jets survived Thanksgiving challenges, while the Falcons got yet another last-second win at home.
It may be tempting to have the NFL power rankings 2010 Week 13 place the Patriots and Jets at 1-2. Their upcoming Monday night showdown is hyped enough already, without it being a 1 vs 2 clash. But the Falcons are still lurking between them, as they get taken more serious as a Super Bowl contender.
Meanwhile, the Ravens and Steelers made their case to round out the top 5, before their own coming showdown. Of course, the Steelers were lucky not to lose to 2-9 Buffalo, while the Ravens had their troubles with the Buccaneers. Yet like New York and New England, Baltimore and Pittsburgh will fight for a division lead and big playoff positioning, only on Sunday night.
While the AFC leaders will break away from each other soon, the NFL power rankings 2010 Week 13 have NFC teams rising as well. As the Falcons hang around the AFC elite, the Bears are starting to march up, after their win over the Eagles. The Packers are unlikely to drop too much, after their close loss to the Falcons, while the Saints are still hovering around.
Meanwhile, the Colts are now on the outside looking in, after their damaging loss to the Chargers. It was already surprising enough to have the Vikings and Cowboys far down the standings this year, and now the Colts are dropping down as well. Their decline isn’t as extreme yet, but they are decidedly not among the elite right now either.
After Week 13, the NFL power rankings 2010 will take a rather different tone. The winners of the Jets-Patriots and Steelers-Ravens games are likely to lead the way, and have the inside track for playoff home field. Of course, things go could differently, as they have all season, but perhaps things may be settling down for the playoff chase.
At the moment, here is the top of the NFL power rankings, before the game-changers to come in Week 13.
1. Patriots: 9-2
2. Falcons: 9-2
3. Jets: 9-2
4. Ravens: 8-3
