It took me almost until Thanksgiving but I finally had a strong showing last week; correctly picking 12 of the 16 games correctly. Of course, with six teams playing a short week (thanks to the holiday) and yet another team making a coaching change, things are still getting interesting.
Here are this week’s predictions. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
New England Patriots at Detroit Lions – Perhaps, via a Christmas miracle, the Lions will win this game. But, it’s not Christmas yet. Patriots win.
New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys – The Saints finally found their groove. But, even though it’s too late to really mean anything, Dallas is starting to live up to its Super Bowl potential. They also get to play at home on Thanksgiving. Cowboys win.
Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets – The Jets are winning but aren’t exactly dominating teams. I think that changes this week against the underachieving Bengals. Jets win.
Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons – The Falcons are undefeated at home and will likely be the favorite in this game. But, like the Cowboys, the Packers are starting to live up to their potential; especially the defense, which has given up just 10 points in the past three games. Packers win.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills – The Bills have a bit of a win streak going after winning their last two games. But, I think the Steelers will end that. Steelers win.
Carolina Panthers at Cleveland Browns – The Browns still have some work to do if they want to be a legitimate contender. But, at least they seem to have found a quarterback; something that can’t be said about Carolina. Browns win.
Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Giants – I never would have thought the Jaguars would be at the top of their division at this point in the season and, while part of me wants to pick the Giants, I’m going to give Jacksonville the benefit of the doubt. Jaguars win.
Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins – The big story out of Minnesota is, of course, the firing of head coach Brad Childress. As part of that, quarterback Brett Favre faces something he has never faced before; the potential of being benched in favor of his back up. I think that will put a sense of urgency back into him. Vikings win.
Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans – Neither of these teams is living up to their playoff potential and I suspect they might both be looking for new coaches next season. I’ll give it to the home team. Texans win.
Kansas City Chiefs at Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks are 3-1 at home. The Chiefs are 1-4 on the road. Seahawks win.
Miami Dolphins at Oakland Raiders – The Raiders were humiliated by the Pittsburgh Steelers this past weekend. But, that only proves they aren’t an elite team yet. I think they are still good enough to beat a visiting team with quarterback issues. Raiders win.
St. Louis Rams at Denver Broncos – I have a feeling the Broncos might be looking for a new coach in the near future too after dropping to 3-7. Rams win.
Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears – The Bears need this win to keep pace with the Packers in the NFC North. And, I think their defense is fast enough to keep Michael Vick contained and force him to pass the ball more; something he has improved on but is still not his strong suit. Bears win.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Baltimore Ravens – This is another one of those games that could go either way. I’m going to take a chance on Tampa Bay. Buccaneers win.
San Diego Chargers at Indianapolis Colts – The Chargers win against the Broncos got them back in the hunt for their division. But, I don’t see Peyton Manning losing two in a row. Colts win.
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals – I bet, when this game was scheduled for Monday Night, nobody was expecting both teams to be 3-7. 49ers win.
My Overall Record – 85-72
