Week 3 of the 2010 NFL season saw many unbeaten teams handed their first defeat of the season. Only three teams with a perfect record remain, and all three teams were not expected to be 3-0 by anyone before the season began. I had another rough week with my predictions, finishing 8-8 for the second week in a row.
Tennessee Titans 29, New York Giants 10 – My Prediction: Tennessee
Chris Johnson was back to his dominant self, rushing for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Titans beat the reeling Giants.
Cincinnati Bengals 20, Carolina Panthers 7 – My Pick: Cincinnati
The Bengals overcame turnovers and penalties to spoil Jimmy Clausen’s first career start.
Pittsburgh Steelers 38, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 – My Pick: Pittsburgh
The Steelers blew out the Buccaneers and are looking to be strong Super Bowl contenders.
New England Patriots 38, Buffalo Bills 30 – My Pick: New England
The Bills made this a much closer game than I would have thought, but the Patriots were ultimately too much for Buffalo to handle.
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens – My Pick: Baltimore
Joe Flacco finally had a good game, throwing for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Ravens beat the Browns. Anquan Boldin showed why the Ravens wanted him on their team, catching 8 passes for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Kansas City Chiefs 31, San Francisco 49ers 10 – My Pick: San Francisco
The Chiefs proved the doubters wrong again, handing the 49ers another blowout loss. The Chiefs have two huge tests in the coming weeks, against the Colts and then the Texans. Winning one or both games will truly prove that the Chiefs are a contender this year.
Dallas Cowboys 27, Houston Texans 13 – My Pick: Houston
The Cowboys finally looked like the team everyone predicted them to be at the start of the season, as they defeated the Texans on the road. Turnovers were the deciding factor in this game, as Matt Schaub was picked off twice and Arian Foster lost a fumble. Houston’s defense is clearly their biggest weakness, and it may be what holds them back from being an elite team.
Minnesota Vikings 24, Detroit Lions 10 – My Pick: Minnesota
The Vikings finally get a win, although it was mostly because of Adrian Peterson’s 160 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Brett Favre struggled again, throwing 2 more interceptions to raise his season total to 6.
Atlanta Falcons 27, New Orleans Saints 24 – My Pick: New Orleans
I was right about this being a close, hard-fought battle, but it was the Falcons who came away with a win in overtime. The Saints looked like they had the game in hand, but their kicker Garrett Hartley missed a 29 yard field goal in overtime that would have won the game for New Orleans. The Falcons capitalized on this opportunity and won with a 46 yard field goal by Matt Bryant.
St. Louis Rams 30, Washington Redskins 16 – My Pick: Washington
Sam Bradford and the Rams pick up their first win of the season in convincing fashion over the Redskins. What made it even more impressive was that they won even with an injury to their star running back Steven Jackson.
Philadelphia Eagles 28, Jacksonville Jaguars 3 – My Pick: Philadelphia
Michael Vick and the Eagles dominated the Jaguars from start to finish. Vick validated coach Andy Reid’s decision with another monster game, throwing for 3 touchdowns and running for another one.
Indianapolis Colts 27, Denver Broncos 13 – My Pick: Indianapolis
Peyton Manning threw for 3 touchdowns as the Colts rolled to a win over the Broncos. Kyle Orton played well in the loss, racking up 476 yards passing and once again dashing Tim Tebow fans’ hopes of seeing him on the field.
Arizona Cardinals 24, Oakland Raiders 23 – My Pick: Oakland
The Raiders lost in heartbreaking fashion as kicker Sebastian Janikowski missed his third field goal of the day as the game ended.
Seattle Seahawks 27, San Diego Chargers 20 – My Pick: San Diego
The Seahawks get the win thanks to two kickoff returns for touchdowns by offseason acquisition Leon Washington.
New York Jets 31, Miami Dolphins 23 – My Pick: Miami
Mark Sanchez has another big game as New York beats division rival Miami. The Jets have the early advantage in the AFC East after beating both the Patriots and the Dolphins.
Chicago Bears 20, Green Bay Packers 17 – My Pick: Green Bay
The Bears get the huge win over the Packers, and remain the lone unbeaten team in the NFC.
