The Nikon Coolpix S3000 tries so hard to be cool that it even uses the cool in its name but is it really as cool as Nikon would make you believe? If you want to know the answer to that question and learn more about the Coolpix S3000 you will have to keep reading on.
The Nikon Coolpix S3000 certainly tries to be trendy by offering many different color options and the advertising for it tries to show it as a cool camera to have. Cameras often try to sale themselves as fun, something you take with you when you are having fun to save memories of the fun time. Personally I think the camera having so many color options is silly and calling oneself cool is anything but cool. While the camera may not be truly cool I think that it does a good job at being just a camera.
The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is reasonably priced and has many features that go beyond what you would expect from a camera in its price range. The camera is an impressive 12mp, and it also features wide angle 4x and optical zoom. On top of these features there is a function to reduce blur, soften skin, smart portrait, and even HD recording. While these features are not the top of the line for what they do they do offer you entry level use of these functions that most cameras in this range would not give you. The size is small which makes it easy to take with you wherever you go.
There are cheaper cameras on the market but not many cheaper name brand cameras. Often I prefer to be cheap when buying things but I think it is worth paying a little more for a nicer camera that will last, do what you expect, and take great quality photos. To me this is an entry level camera. Yes there are cheaper ones but you will spend more when you end up going out to buy something that actually works later after buying a inferior camera.
The one thing that I think hurts this camera is that all you get is a camera and a very limited video camera. Now you can get a phone, mp3 player, and camera all in one. It seems that the Coolpix are being sold to kids because they are more affordable and they are trying to be trendy but kids are more likely to pull out a cell phone from there pocket then anything else and that cell phone most likely has an adequate camera.
If you want an entry level stand alone camera then the Nikon Coolpix S3000 is a good camera for you. If you do not need a standalone camera or if you are looking for a higher end camera then you should think about something else. For what it is the S3000 is a good camera and a good deal.
