Coming off throwing only the second postseason no-hitter in baseball history, Roy Halladay hoped to continue his amazing postseason with another dominant performance against the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants had other plans.
San Francisco outfielder Cody Ross hit two solo home runs off of Halladay, Buster Posey scored on a double by Pat Burrell, and Nate Schierholtz scored on a Juan Uribe single.
Halladay surrendered eight hits and four runs while striking out seven Giants in seven innings of work.
Giants’ starter Tim Lincecum allowed three runs, six hits, and three walks while striking out eight Phillies in seven innings.
All three of Philadelphia’s runs came on homers off of Lincecum: Carlos Ruiz hit a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning and Jayson Werth hit a two run shot in the sixth to score Chase Utley.
Both bullpens held the opposition scoreless, securing San Francisco’s victory.
Game 2 of the 2010 National League Championship Series will take place Sunday evening in Philadelphia.
