The Director of the Department of Public Works was recently authorized to spend up to $350,000 on the Illegal Dumping Abatement Project in the city of San Francisco. This is great news for our neighborhood in North Bernal Heights.
Perhaps it is our location close to an industrial zone that is known for construction workers. Or maybe it is due to one bad neighbor. Either way, people choose to the all kinds of objects on the street corners in this neighborhood. Sometimes, they will sit on the streets of North Bernal Heights waiting for weeks in order to be removed by the proper authorities.
While the objects wait to get picked up by the city, they get covered with stickers and graffiti. Someone’s old refrigerator that someone paid to have remove was most likely down to illegally by the person paid to remove it. They give you a bunch junk on your street corner in exchange for saving money that someone else paid to recycle it.
The city is taking responsibility for the issue and is also available via 311 if you have any junk that was illegally dumped in North Bernal Heights.
