There are many things from childhood that can bring back nostalgic memories. One of those things is candy. Candy is something that brings back good memories because it is usually eaten as a treat. Being a mom, I often enjoy letting my children have a piece of candy from time to time that I had as a child. Here are some of the top candies that I enjoyed during my childhood that I like sharing with my kids.
Candy Buttons– I absolutely loved this candy when I was a kid. First of all, it’s one that I couldn’t find very often which made it a real treat when I did. There was something about being able to try to get each piece of candy off the paper without getting paper stuck to the candy. Sometimes I succeeded and sometimes I got to eat paper along with my candy.
Jelly Belly Jelly Beans– Who couldn’t love a candy that even the president loved? Ronald Regan helped make this candy famous and rightfully so. These jellybeans tasted much better than regular ones and I would always eat my least favorite flavor first and work my way through my jellybeans until I finally got to my favorite. I bought Jelly Belly Jelly Beans for my kids’ Easter basket this past year instead of regular ones. It wasn’t my fault my kids didn’t get to eat all of their jellybeans. For some reason, they would just magically disappear from their baskets.
Gummy bears– Gummy bears are so much fun to eat. Do you start with the head so that he doesn’t realize what is going on? Do you just eat his ears first so that he can’t hear? What about his feet so that the gummy bear can’t run away? This is one candy you play with when you eat it. I love the fact that my kids eat them because it gives me an excuse to buy them.
Giant suckers– Even though I never could manage to eat an entire giant sucker, I still tried. My first one was purchased at a circus my parents took me to when I was about four. It got too gross to eat it before I could finish it but it was fun trying. I recently bought one of my boys a giant sucker when we went on vacation this year. He didn’t manage to finish it either.
Whatchamacallit Candy Bar– This was probably my favorite candy bar as a kid. I would go to the grocery store as often as I could trying to get my hands on one. There is just something about peanut butter and chocolate. A Whatchamacallit is a great candy bar even today.
Candy is just one of those things that everyone enjoys. The fun thing about being a parent is sharing those things from your childhood that brought you joy. They create fun new memories for our kids and bring us parents down memory lane. Candy is one of those things that can bring nostalgia and is a fun treat for everyone.
