Since we celebrate Thanksgiving during November I thought it would be appropriate to have the theme be remembering the people who have helped us. My prayer is an attempt to remember the people who have lived their faith and motivated me to show in any way I can the light of Jesus by my actions. The quote from Mother Teresa gives an example of how she was moved by someone who gave her a very special gift. In the reflection I give an example of how a co-worker helped me. I encourage us to let our loved ones know how much we appreciate their acts of kindness. The activity is simple yet can be very helpful in persevering with following God.
Loving Father, as I remember the wonderful people who have blessed me with their kindness, may I spread the compoassion they have given me to others. May I never forget the love they have shown and never tire of giving thanks and sharing the stories of their commitment towards helping me and others.
We may hear of violence and other unpleasant things which contradict how we are called upon to live. But then we experience the faith of others which is lived daily. These acts of kindness help us remember your love and presence in the world. We pray for all who are connected to your sacred light within , and live a life of compassion. May we learn from them how to be a loving follower of You.
“It was late in the day (around 10 at night), when the door bell rang. I opened the door and found a man shivering the cold.” Mother Teresa, I hear you won an important prize. When I heard this I wanted to offer something too. Here you have it; this is what I collected today.” It was little bit in his case it was everything. I was moved more, than by the Nobel Prize.”
November is when we think of thanksgiving and reflect upon our blessings. In this quote from Mother Teresa, although this man gave little, it was all that he had. I think of the many people in my life who have given me understanding and love. Perhaps that day it was all they had. Even though they may have had a troublesome day or a crisis in their own family they still had time for me.
An example concerns one our employees. He had just lost his mother, but he was helping me with my projects in anyway that he could. He still took time to be caring even though he was faced with the loss of his mother. I can think of many more examples of the kindness. What a blessing!
Sometimes it is easy to obsess about the people who have hurt us and our problems. Instead, it helps to remember the people who have gone the extra mile to be our friend. Not only remember them, but to explain how much we appreciated their effort and help. They may not be aware of how much we value their love. It might encourage them to continue caring for others.
Write down the names of all the people who have helped us.We may be surprised when we see how many were there for us. Each day this month hold them in prayer and sometime during this month thank them. If they have died we can remember them in prayer.
