As the lawmakers prepare to return to their places in Congress, the long term unemployed have grown to a large “millions sized Americans ” population. Last month, the 99ers as they are called turned out in force once again to bare their souls and express their misery to an apathetic Wall St.
” Give us Jobs or Give us extended benefits”, they chanted.
Two bills are pending, which the Congress has largely ignored so far, and the unemployed workers fear will continue to be ignored for the rest of the year.
According to Dwight Hemmingway from World Correspondents they are described below;
Michican’s Senator Debbie Stabenow which provides 20 additional weeks of unemployment insurance for individuals in states with unemployment rates of above 7.5% and a one-year extension of two tax credits for businesses that hire unemployed workers.
The second from the House of Representatives introduced by Rep. Shelley Berkley from Nevada aiming to provide an additional 20 weeks of unemployment benefits but only for those states with unemployment rates of 10 percent or higher.
Furthermore, Dwight has posted a really compelling youtube video at the end of his article.
It is a must see to appreciate the skills and the level of desperation these workers face.
They are just like everyman— responsible workers who just had the misfortune to lose their job–not losers or slackers:
Workers in every city might want to join the rally.
