At the latest Fort Greene community meeting, Anthony Tasso of the 88th precinct vowed to increase foot patrols and police presence in neighborhood “problem areas.”
Brooklyn Ink reported that residents raised concerns at the meeting, citing several violent muggings in the neighborhood in recent weeks. Reports of robberies and muggings have skyrocketed throughout the neighborhood in recent months.
At the meeting, Tasso stated that crime was up in the 88th precinct by more than 70 percent over last years numbers. Tasso blamed budget cuts in the NYPD for some of the increase. Saying he didn’t have the manpower he once had.
However, Tasso announced at the meeting he would increase foot patrols and award overtime to officers on duty in problem areas.
Hopefully the increased foot presence will deter criminals. The neighborhood certainly doesn’t feel as safe as it once did.
