NYX is a cosmetic brand that is of drugstore pricing but usually of high end brand quality.
NYX cosmetics are sold online at their site, here, as well as many Ulta stores.
Since Ulta stores often have sales on NYX products, this is a great brand to try out for little money.
NYX has a fairly new product called a “shadow base”. This shadow base comes in 3 colors: white, pearl and skin tone. For the purpose of this article, I will be doing a basic and brief overview of the skin toned shade.
Skin tone is a yellow based light neutral color that will work best on those women who have medium light to medium deep skin tones, though any skin tone would work since this is used to go under other eye makeup.
This product comes in a small clear glass jar with a white lid that unscrews to reveal the creamy product.
This shadow base is ideal for those of us who want our shadows to have a little more pigmentation. This also works well in the fact that the shadows actually stick to the base causing the shadows to last longer and show up better.
This product is not a primer though many women probably believe that it is. A primer’s job is to help the eye shadows not crease and to also bring out the pigmentation of the shadows.
While this is not a primer, I do find that most bases will help the eye shadows not crease, even on oily lids and skin.
If you do have a problem with creasing that is not helped by a base, you can always put a primer underneath this product.
I usually have no problems with using a base even though I am prone to oily skin.
This product is easily blendable and very creamy. You do not need a thick layer as a think application will work best.
This is a product that you can use your fingers with. Many might find this not very hygienic, but you should be washing your hands before applying makeup anyways, so I don’t find this much of a problem.
You could use a brush if you wanted or a small makeup spatula or q-tip to obtain the product if you don’t want to stick your fingers in it.
The company is currently offering their bases for $6 on their site, here. You can find these at most Ulta stores for around $6.99. As stated earlier, you can often find these on sale.
You will get 7 grams or 25 ounces of product in the jar. This should last a decent amount of time as a little goes a long way.
