Reading is such an integral part of a child’s development and begins a good habit that can last a lifetime. Elementary students have such a wide variety of interests to begin with, as well as being divided between interests of boys and girls. Here is a Top 5 list of books for elementary students to consider.
1) Junie B. Jones series – by Barbara Park
Junie tells her story and writes in her journal to tell about her life growing up. This series has kids and adults chuckling.
2) Magic Tree House series – by Mary Pope Osborne
These clever books teach history and important life lessons. There are adventures of Jack and Annie traveling through time putting them in situations they could have only imagined.
3) The Lorax – by Dr. Suess
This classic story of the Lorax being upset and concerned about the trees disappearing teaches an important lesson.
4) Captain Underpants series – by Dav Pilkey
Yes, that is the title and there are many silly titles to choose from to entertain kids (and adults!). The “Flip-o-rama” pages are genius and the author has a wonderful imagination for these stories.
5) “If You Give A” Book series – by Laura Numeroff
Another wonderful series looking at what could happen if you give a moose a muffin, a mouse a cookie, a pig a pancake and some other possibilities.
These books have been repeatedly read at our house and enjoyed each time. I hope that this gives you some ideas of books to get for your elementary student to enjoy reading. I would love any suggestions to add to our collection!
