The office Christmas party or holiday party can be a bit difficult to plan for in terms of clothing choices and hair style choices. Do you want a killer hairstyle to turn heads and show off your alpha female attitude or do you want to show that subtlety is key by looking relatively inconspicuous? The two styles suggested below fall somewhat between these two levels while favoring an office friendly, subtle approach.
The French Twist at the Office Christmas Party
A classic French twist is a lovely, sophisticated updo that is relatively easy to create. To begin a French twist you start by brushing your hair back and slightly to one side. With your palm placed firmly against the back of the head, you let your thumb serve as a base for the bottom of your twist. You then twist your hand firmly into the hair to where the palm faces away from the head to create the twist. Secure the hair with bobby pins and tuck the ends of the twist and secure them to complete the style. (The sources section of the article references a YouTube video that excellent demonstrates the technique.)
Side Swept Hair at the Office Christmas Party
Part your hair to the extreme on one side of your head. Take the wide body section of hair and use a wide barrel curling iron or hot rollers to give the front section a definitive wave while adding a moderate wave to the rest of your hair. When this portion is completed, spray your hair with anti-frizz hair spray and smooth down any flyaways.
Next, pick out a cute hair accessory such as a sparkly bobby pin or a sleek bar barrette. Take the front part of your hair on the large body side of your part and pull it back loosely to the side of your head and secure it. Ideally the bobby pin or barrette appears slightly behind the temple but even with it and rests at a 45-degree angle. It is imperative that you do not pull the hair to tight before securing as this takes the look from slightly sensual and definitively grown-up to child-like in an instant. Visualize that you are pulling your hair back to create a face flattering wave, not to keep the hair out of your face.
Both of these styles will have you looking sophisticated and slightly sexy at the office party without lending yourself to intra-office gossip.
