Cleveland – Ohio, State legislature has recently been passed creating laws that will allow us to have Casino gambling in Ohio, with four locations on that list for now. Casino gambling will be located in Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.
Ohio Casino Control Commission
In their continuing but slow progress forward there are many steps which must be taken in order to actually get these Casino projects off the ground. The most recent step has been for our Governor Ted Strickland to announce his selection of seven candidates for the new seats on the Ohio Casino Control Commission. This commission will oversee the operations of all the Casinos in Ohio.
Part time jobs for $60K?
I found it interesting that these “part time” positions will net each of the victors a hearty $60,000 per year salary, plus “actual and necessary expenses” required to do their jobs. Not too bad considering how many unemployed workers would probably do this job for less than half that salary!
What comes next?
The next step is to have these seven people either accepted, or rejected by the Ohio Senate with replacements submitted shortly after that first round. This group is going to be tasked first with electing a director and according to the Ohio house bill that covers this process, this person will be hired at a salary rate of between $66,851 and $146,286. I will be very interested in seeing how much this job goes for! Can you imagine them hiring a director for just a little bit more than they each make per year?
What will this group actually do?
This Commissions primary job will be to license and regulate Casino Gambling in Ohio. Of course the bill provides for this commission to employ many other workers in order to operate successfully on a day to day basis.
Lets build something now!
The construction and operation of casino gambling facilities in Cleveland Ohio will create jobs, and draw much needed cash to one of the hardest hit areas in this whole economic melt down. The creation of jobs could impact me directly in the creation of new jobs which I would easily qualify for. So lets get to building these casinos already!
Impact on local areas surrounding Cleveland
As a board member of Geauga County Tourism, we can expect an influx of people from out of town that will bring their tourism dollars to our area. We are not exactly in the heart of it all, but our expectation is that new people will travel through our communities to get to the Casinos in Cleveland, and invariably some will choose to stay and learn more about the surrounding communities.
Whats in it for Cleveland and when?
This casino landing in Cleveland could really help turn things around for many local communities, not just Cleveland. So I am here to say lets get this show on the road already! We need the jobs, and the cash flow which will come from these Casinos in Ohio. It would be much better for us if there was some way to get this up and running sooner than the currently expected date of 2013, but this too gives us time to make sure the rules and regulations are firmly in place so that this operation runs smoothly.
Meanwhile I plan to brush up on my card dealing skills, dust off my clown suit, get out my black suit and dark sunglasses, or whatever else they can hire me to do.
