The children are guided by glow sticks bright,
On this particular eerie Halloween night,
With sticky hands and melted chocolate lips,
They whine and they whimper with tired quips.
It was time for the grown-ups to come out and play,
Dressed dapper in costumes not fit for the day,
Pop stars in glitter, fishnets and meat,
This group does not linger for candied treats.
Zombies walk dead with flesh in tow,
Vampires suck till blood overflowed,
Witches and warlocks flick wooden sticks,
While doctors and nurses perform remedy tricks.
Under the full moon they roam the dark roads,
Breaking everyday laws and ethical codes,
But something unusual lingers out of sight,
On this particular eerie Halloween night.
Above all the music and voices that scare,
A thundering boom made them tremble in fear,
The sky opened up in a halo of wonder,
Every grisly eyeball looked up to ponder.
Like pod people they were drawn to the scene,
To see the face of a horrendous fiend,
In a trance with mouths open wide,
This evil force pierced them deep inside.
Bodies quivered dropping like flies,
Flat on the ground they helplessly lied,
The macabre demon engulfed every soul,
Spewing foul breath turning the town cold.
Not a life-form around created a stir,
The despicable creature stole every blur,
What was once green is now only a shadow,
Leaving an atmosphere filled with much sorrow.
At the break of dawn there was nothing to see,
The town had vanished from the planet’s decree,
No living being could explain the fright,
Of what happened on this eerie Halloween night.
