It was announced at the beginning of the seventh season of “The Office” Steve Carell the actor who plays Michael Scott will be leaving the show. Now this news was not entirely unexpected, Carell has slowly but surely been making his way into the movie business with films like “40 Year Old Virgin” and most recently “Date Night” with Tina Fey. But you can’t help but think of the void that will be left by the exit of such a crucial character for the show.
Although the supporting cast of “The Office” is very entertaining and can easily enough carry on without Michael Scott to demand unnecessary meetings for the office or make remarkable awkward conversation. The fear is that the void left by Michael will force “The Office” to take on an entirely different tone. That is unless the show runners just replace one awkward boss with another, but it is more likely that they will allow the story to run its course and “The Office” will be left a much different show.
The reason for Michael to leave the show is still up in the air; all that we know is that his character is going to leave. So here are a few potential ways Michael could make his exit from “The Office.”
– Michael is forced out of his position as office manager due to his increasingly fragile psyche.
– Holly returns to Michael because her fiancé refuses to move to a distant city where there is a job that will further Holly’s carrier. Michael seizes the opportunity to be reunited with his perfect match and leaves his family at the office in order to start a new one with Holly.
– After another bout of counseling sessions Michael kills Toby. The last shot we see of Michael is of him passing through the Mexican boarder wearing a fake mustache.
– During an office meeting someone makes the observation that Michael is in his 40s and if he was planning to marry someone his own age and start a family, they would only have a very short window of time to conceive children. This does not sit well with Michael given he has always wanted to have a rather large brood. The result of this revelation sends Michael into the arms of a much younger woman who demands the two of them go on a year long European tour, and Michael is more than willing to go.
