I have had an organic buckwheat pillow for many years now and it is still going strong. I bought it ten years ago and unlike a feather or other type of fluffy pillow it has lasted longer. It is fantastic to sleep on but you may need to give yourself some time to get used to it. For one thing it is harder then most but you can shape it anyway that is comfortable for you and it will keep it’s shape.
The hulls of the buckwheat are used to make these types of pillows and it is processed in a way that you don’t need to worry about any wheat still remaining in the pillow. They are bendable and squishy so you can put them in any position you want. Since they are different from the regular ordinary soft pillow you won’t be comfortable the first night but after you and your new pillow get acquainted you will become good friends.
You can get these hulled pillows in different types like a neck pillow and a regular shaped pillow. I prefer the neck pillow since I can shape it easier then a regular rectangular pillow. I can make it as thick or thin as I like and make my neck straight as I sleep. Since you can sleep with a straight spine you can keep your back in line and that means you don’t have to see the spinal doctor as much or at all.
A moldy pillow is not much of a comfort and a soft fluffy pillow can get moldy faster then a buckwheat pillow. That is a big advantage especially if you have allergies to mold.
Once you have learned the position you like your buckwheat pillow to be you won’t want to sleep on another type of pillow. You will probably want to take it traveling with you so you don’t have to use the motels pillows. This might be cumbersome to take with you but I have found that when I travel I can roll up a motel towel and it is a pretty good substitute for a short time. A rolled towel can also be put into a position you like but it is even harder then buckwheat.
Since you sleep for hours in one place it makes sense to sleep in an organic environment. Organic pillows help you stay green.
You can find these organic pillows in many places like Walgreen’s for about $20 and they are pretty good. You can also find them on the internet. One good place to look is at http://www.northernnaturals.com/buckwheatpillow.html for more information.
