Horses love apples, and Apple loves horses.
But Apple Martin’s mother, Gwyneth Paltrow (Emma, Shakespeare in Love, Shallow Hal and The Talented Mr. Ripley), apparently cannot abide equines.
“I hate horses,” Gwyneth Paltrow said to the British Vogue Magazine, “and have nothing really to do with them.”
Apple Martin brings home the blues with young celebrity equestrians.
Apple Blythe Alison Martin, the six-year-old daughter of Academy Award winning British actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, is proudly displaying plenty of ribbons from various horse shows this season (including the prestigious 35th Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, New York, in August).
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelo’s daughter Lola (9) and Matt Lauer and Annette Roque’s daughter Romy (6) saddled up for various equestrian classes in the same horse show.
Gwyneth Paltrow bolts from equestrian pursuits.
Apple Martin’s mother, Gwyneth Paltrow (who is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and the late film director Bruce Paltrow), trotsthe other way, withering from horses and horseback riding locales.
Although Apple has taken to equestrian sports quite readily, her thespian mother seems uninterested in cartingher daughter to horseback riding lessons or horse shows. Instead, Gwyneth Paltrow leans on her gal-pal fashion designer Stella McCartney to encourage Apple’s equestrian pursuits, although Stella McCartney is presently pregnant with her fourth child.
“Apple has turned into quite an equestrian, and as I can’t bear horses or riding, Stella takes her out,” Gwyneth Paltrow commented to The Daily Mail of the U.K.
In fact, Stella McCartney (daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney and the late Linda McCartney) frequently supervises Apple Martin and her younger brother Moses (4). Gwyneth Paltrow apparently asks Stella McCartney to pony up photographs of the Martin children on horseback, as she is loathe to approach the stable or riding arena.
Under Stella McCartney’s watch, Apple Martin has grown her love of horses and perhaps become a vegetarian as well.
Perhaps Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t like equestrians, either.
According to showbiz rumors, Gwyneth Paltrow clashed with Iron Man 2 co-star Scarlett Johansson during filming and pre-release promotion of the film (which was released in May 2010). Scarlett Johansson, of course, came to fame for her role in 1998’s The Horse Whisperer (with Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas).
Call it neighsaying, if you must, but we have to wonder whether Scarlett Johansson might have spurredGwyneth Paltrow to unbridledanger by suggesting a horseback ride or a visit to a local equestrian center. Perhaps Scarlett Johansson recommended offering an apple to a horse, and Gwyneth Paltrow took the idea a bit too personally.
In August 2008, Gwyneth Paltrow participated in an equine benefit party on New York’s Long Island. Although guests paid $2,500 apiece to meet and greet celebrities, the actress remained in a secluded spot for most of the event, refusing to join the herdof horse-loving party-goers.
