Did you know that our lips can pinpoint sickness and disease? How? Certain sicknesses and certain diseases can cause our lips to change colors and to change their look in general. These changes can be indicators that doctors can use to gauge whether we may have a certain disease and sickness. We can use these indicators as well. Here are a few changes to notice:
Paleness of the lips
If you notice that your lips have suddenly become pale or look a bit whiter, you may be experiencing a condition known as anemia, which is an iron deficiency. You can easily be tested for this through a blood test. Another indicator is if you are tired a lot.
If your lips begin to look blue in color, especially around the center of your lips
Blue lips can be an indicator that you are experiencing a lack of oxygen. A lack of oxygen is an indicator that you may be having a heart or lung problem or disease. Take this very seriously.
If your lips begin to look yellow or if you have yellowing around your lips
You may have liver disease. Set up an appointment with your physician immediately.
If you have a growth on your lip, especially your bottom lip, or if you are experiencing pain or numbness
You may have skin cancer. Skin cancer can affect your lips and is more apt to affect your bottom lip before it is your upper one. Symptoms can include: a growth or growths that will not go away, dry white patches, lumps or thickening of the skin, pain or numbness. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment with your physician or dermatologist promptly.
Our lips also need to be protected from such factors as aging and the environment. Here are some simple tips to do so:
When we plan on being indoors we can do this by:
• Applying a lip moisturizer balm
• Use natural vitamin E capsules and placing the oil directly onto our lips
• Applying Coconut Oil onto our lips
When we are planning on being outdoors we can do this by:
• Applying a lip balm proctectant with sunscreen
Our lips can be great indicators of some health conditions. However, they still require a little bit of tender loving care on our part to keep them moist and happy.
