If you have ever had a call to a customer hot line picked up by someone in India, you have had to undergo a result of outsourcing. The United States faces a greater number of outsourced jobs every year as producers move their factories and labor intensive industries to countries with a lower minimum wage. Rather than wait for the government to figure out a way to take action or allow your job to passively be taken away, take action on your own and find a way out of the cycle of outsourcing.
There are several possible ways to deal with the dilemma of outsourcing. One of those is to become an outsourced worker yourself. Jobs such as website designer or freelance writer can be conducted online or over the phone and can be done from outside of the country. Although freelance writing does not pay enough if you are bound to living within the United States, it does if you choose to spend a couple years living in some parts of Latin America or Asia. Performing the job abroad allows you to do a job you enjoy, while making enough to live well on in a country with a far lower cost of living. Provided you have a laptop and internet connection you can be in business from anywhere in the world.
Another potential solution is to outsource yourself as a worker in the global economy. Some Japanese students are starting to go and work in companies in Thailand. Although they make a lower wage than they would earn in Japan, it allows them to gain experience and the wage they earn is high enough to allow them to save and have a high standard of living while doing so. On websites such as monster jobs, a job seeker can find jobs abroad.
There still exists the highly popular option of becoming an English teacher. The jobs are plentiful and at least in Asia, there exists an excellent wage to cost of living ratio. Even for the worker without a bachelors degree, technically illegal teaching jobs or private lessons can be found, although they require a visa run every two months.
Long ago when the economy restructured and shifted, it necessitated workers moving between states or provinces to adjust for the shift in demand. Every country is now a part of the global economy so as demand shifts, so must the workers, except on a global scale. If jobs do not exist or ca not be found at a living wage in one country, spending a few years exploring the world and working somewhere else can be an excellent possibility, offering the potential for a more exciting life and a better standard of living.
