The Huffington Post reported on September 16th, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere has stopped diminishing. (Source).
It’s old news, but I missed it, and in case you also missed it, let it be known. The ozone layer is actually, slowly, repairing itself, as the report on 9/16 stated. This is cause for celebration. Have an extra cup of coffee tomorrow morning. Or have an extra shot of tequila tonight. And tomorrow night.
In 1987, the Montreal Protocol was signed, banning CFCs and other substances that were found to be rapidly depleting our ozone layer. In the “Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion 2010” report, scientists believe the ozone should largely repair itself by the middle of this century.
And everybody kept telling me humans were doomed.
