I had the opportunity to eat at Pa Pa Pia’s last night (10-1-2010) with friends and family. Let me begin by stating that the Pa Pa Pia’s location we ate at is 83 Union Avenue in Memphis, TN. The telephone number for this location is 901-521-4331. Their website address is http://www.papapias.com/home.html
You will probably not find free parking anywhere close to Pa Pa Pia’s. The best place to park is in a garage called ‘Parking Can Be Fun.’ It is also located on Union Avenue (intersection of Union and South Center Lane) and it is probably within 50 feet of Pa Pa Pia’s, if not closer. It is only $3 unless there is a big event (e.g., concert, Redbirds game, Grizzly game, etc.) going on and then it is $5. Pa Pa Pia’s and ‘Parking Can Be Fun’ are located directly across from the ‘Mesquite Chop House.’
We had a party of four and we ordered the ‘Mangia Family Style.’ This option allows you to choose two full orders from the pasta menu and two full orders from the Entree section. So, basically you get to order four menu items. The ‘Mangia Family Style’ costs $45. We ordered MaMa’s Lasagna and Formaggion Manicotti from the pasta menu and Chicken Saltimbocca and Chicken Piccata from the Entrees section. If we had ordered these four dishes individually (not did the ‘Mangia Family Style’), it would have cost us about $55. You can save up to $22 depending on what you order.
Each dish was excellent. My favorite dish was the Chicken Saltimbocca. MaMa’s Lasagna was my 2nd favorite dish. For our party of four, we had more then enough to eat. They provide you with bread (not breadsticks like Olive Garden). We had portions of each dish left over and let me repeat that all four of us left very full.
The atmosphere is top notch. It is not so nice that you feel like you need a tuxedo on but with that being said you still feel like you are in a fancy restaurant without the fancy price. We arrived at approximately 7:45 PM on a Friday night and there were not many people there. We were worried at first that this would be an indictment of how the food would taste. Nothing could be further from the truth. The place is pretty small, though. I would say no more than 15-20 tables.
Our ticket read like this: $45 for the ‘Mangia Family Style’ plus $3.98 for two sweet tea’s (I was informed the tea was great). Our total was $48.98 plus $4.53 in tax for a grand total of $53.51. Once our ticket was split between the two couples in our party we paid a total of $31 (including tip).
Each member of my group would definitely recommend Pa Pa Pia’s. Give it a try when you visit Memphis.
