I received four sample products to review from Pantene Pro-V’s Flat to Volume line. Does the volumizing set of shampoo, conditioner, root lifter and hairspray really offer “Fine Hair Solutions”?
Pantene Pro-V Flat to Volume: Shampoo & Conditioner
Do you like Pantene? Yes, I absolutely love the Pantene brand for shampoo and conditioner, and the Flat to Volume series is no exception. The shampoo is gentle yet effective, and the conditioner is thick and hydrating. Each regular-sized bottle is priced just under $4 at my local Walmart. Although cheaper products don’t necessarily compare to the Pantene standard, I often find myself shopping for beauty products mainly on price. Hence, I’ll enjoy the shampoo and conditioner while they last, but I won’t predictably purchase and repurchase them for myself. If you’re used to salon prices, however, Pantene’s a great alternative that can save you money.
Did you notice the “Flat to Volume” aspect? Not exactly. The shampoo is light enough to not weigh my hair down, and the same goes for the conditioner, but I didn’t notice any incredible, unearthly volume-building qualities. If you’re looking into the line strictly for volume benefits, you may be disappointed.
Is the shampoo sulfate free? No, the cleansing agent contains sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate.
Pantene Pro-V Flat to Volume: Root Lifter Spray Gel
What is a root lifting spray gel? If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, you can read the “What,” “Why” and “How” for Pantene Pro-V’s version of a volumizing spray gel to be applied to the roots of the hair.
Do you normally use a root lifter? No, I normally don’t take the extra step in my getting-ready routine to add in a root lifter. When I use a product like this, I find it hard to scientifically evaluate the effects. Does my hair have more body today because of the root lifter, the extra tease I gave it, the humidity? I don’t know. Pantene’s offering seems nice enough, but I can’t conclusively say how volumizing it really is. Is a root lifter worth a few bucks if you can’t tell how much it helped? That’s up to you.
Pantene Pro-V Flat to Volume: Hairspray
What kind of hairspray did you get? I was sent “Lasting Volume” for “Maximum Hold” with a measured strength of 4 out of 4. I was really excited to try out the hairspray, this being my first experience using Pantene’s version. Since I think highly of the brand and love hairspray in general, I had great hopes for the product.
Were your expectations met? No, I’m afraid not. The hairspray left my hair looking and feeling crunchy, and I don’t know that my curls even lasted that much longer because of it. I don’t know how this formula compares to the other Pantene hairspray, so I can’t comment on the line as a whole. But, this particular pick is not ideal for my preferences of having touchable locks. If you’re going for a firm, special-occasion look, you may or may not find the product works for you. I’ll likely be sticking to my more inexpensive hairspray just the same.
