Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, home of the University of Louisville Cardinals, is a wonderful venue for watching college football. What makes Papa John’s such a fantastic stadium for enjoying football in Louisville, Kentucky? There are five major reasons that make this an awesome place to watch a game!
Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is not located on the University of Louisville campus, and therefore the NCAA cannot prohibit the stadium from serving beer and other alcoholic beverages. Many visiting fans cannot believe how spoiled Cardinal fans are by easy access to adult beverages! Beer trucks are located around the main concourse of the stadium, only a minute-walk from most seats. Hard liquor and drinks like Jack Daniels coolers are also available. Beer vendors even walk through the stadium like they do at NFL games.
I Drank Too Much Beer!
The mens’ restroom facilities are widely available and restroom traffic typically flows (no pun intended) very well. The stadium website lists 236 men’s toilets and urinals for the entire facility, although many of the urinals are the big long ones used by multiple people at the same time.
With an old stadium football capacity of 42,000, the man to restroom ratio was 178 to 1, even assuming every single spectator in the stadium shared X and Y chromosomes. Estimating that 66% of the football fans are male, the ratio falls to 118 to 1. Assuming that only 90% of ticket holders actually enter the stadium (tailgating is extraordinarily popular), the ratio further falls to 106 to 1. Assuming a typical restroom visit duration of a minute, a male spectator could theoretically use the restroom every 106 minutes and never encounter a line!
Seats at Papa John’s feature actual seatbacks. No cold metal bleachers for these fans! It is awesome to watch a football game and not have to worry about getting pushed out of your seat by a wide-bottomed fan down the row. The seats are red plastic that have faded to a pinkish color but are very comfortable and stay relatively warm even in cold weather.
Pass Me A Brat!
University of Louisville football fans love to tailgate! Louisville fans grill all sorts of amazing fare and are known to share with total strangers. Fans toss around footballs even though strict stadium rules prohibit this practice. Fans arrive early and stay late, although some take this to extremes and fail to enter the stadium before kickoff. Some fans get so carried away having a good time in the parking lot that they forget to go see the football game.
Looks Like Another Cards’ First Down!
Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium does not offer any bad seats. I have sat virtually near the top of the stadium in the “nose bleed” seats and still managed to enjoy the game with no difficulty. I have not yet sat in the new upper tier added in 2010, but I have not heard any complaints for those who have. Because the stadium is mostly one tier, no columns impede sight lines. The lights used for night games are strong and the lower seats are so close to the field that the opposing bench can sometimes hear heckles from fans.
Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is located at 2800 South Floyd Street, Louisville, Kentucky, 40209. The number for the main information line is 502-852-0083.
